Keith Cadieux

I’m a writer and editor based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. I focus mostly on horror but have written in different genres, though everything does tend to skew dark. I’m most interested in slow burn, eerie stories that tend to fall into weird fiction or the strange. I’m a big fan of Thomas Ligotti, Robert Shearman, Laird Barron, Shirley Jackson, and a whole host of other dark-minded souls.

The official launch of Donner Parties is fast approaching!

Join me and special host, bestselling horror novelist Susie Moloney, at Raven’s End Books at 1893 Portage avenue for gruesome nibbles, a reading, and a discussion about horror.

Debut Short Story Collection Donner Parties Coming VERY Soon!

Donner Parties and Other Anti-Social Gatherings

"Part short stories, part essay collection, Keith Cadieux's Donner Parties and Other Anti-Social Gatherings is always smart, occasionally heartbreaking, and just the right amount of over-the-top—it's everything I love about horror." — Nick Cutter, author of The Troop and Little Heaven

“These stories hook their teeth into you and burrow under your skin. Cadieux is a virtuoso of the creepy, the murky, the subterranean - these stories are as surprising and horrifying as fingers grabbing your toes from the depths of a midnight pool.” — Suzette Mayr, author of the Giller Prize Winner The Sleeping Car Porter

"Grotesque in its intimacy, Donner Parties is a dismembered text haunted by its own author. Cadieux's writing offers a viscerally entangled exploration of the horrific self." — Erica McKeen, author of Tear and Cicada Summer

My debut story collection will be out in the world soon. Full details, including launch information and ordering details coming soon. For more, check out the book page on At Bay Press’s site or pre-order the book at McNally Robinson or your favourite indie bookseller.

Signal Decay Virtual Release and Virtual Book Launch

My latest release, the novelette Signal Decay will be released on June 29, 2021 by At Bay Press.

But a virtual book launch will be happening much sooner on June 1, 2021 through McNally Robinson Booksellers. I am delighted and honoured to share the stage/Zoom screen with Seyward Goodhand, author of the fantastic collection Even That Wildest Hope.

The event is free but to participate directly and contribute to the Q & A, registration through McNally Robinson is required. You can register HERE or simply tune in at 7:00pm Central time through YouTube HERE. Hope to see you there!

Please join Keith Cadieux as he celebrates the virtual launch of Signal Decay (At Bay Press), featuring a conversation hosted by Seyward Goodhand.

Tim has recently passed away and left Lori with piles of expensive recording equipment and mountains of debt. Tim’s family wants to move on from the loss but Lori can’t let go, not while she can still hear Tim’s laugh as though he’s still there beside her. That is, until she begins to hear his laugh in odd places, like old recordings Tim never worked on.

Can love transcend to keep us connected through death? Or do we just create our own reality when we’re not ready to let go?

Host Seyward Goodhand's stories have been shortlisted for the Writers’ Trust/McClelland & Stewart Journey Prize and a National Magazine Award, and longlisted for the CBC Short Story Prize. Her first collection of stories, Even That Wildest Hope, was a finalist for the Manitoba Book Awards' Margaret Laurence Award for Fiction and the Eileen McTavish Sykes Award for Best First Book, and longlisted for the 2020 Sunburst Award for Excellence in Canadian Literature of the Fantastic. She has a PhD in English from the University of Toronto.

I’m delighted and very excited to share that I will be editing the second installment of Fantasmagoriana for the Winnipeg International Writers Festival. The first part of the event will be on September 13, 2019 at the Dalnavert House Museum, where we will host a short reading from our featured writers, who will then be locked in the house overnight to compose brand new, original, creepy stories. Then on Halloween, we’ll reconvene at Dalnavert for the release of a finished chapbook, featuring the stories from their overnight stay. More info can be found at the Winnipeg International Writers Festival facebook page.

This year’s featured authors:
